Hair Replacement: Questions and Answers

Do you have a question? Click here to ask the expert.

Question: Is it necessary to shave my head in order to wear a hair system?

Answer: It is usually best if the hair system sits on a shaved surface in order for the base materials to disappear on your skin and to also achieve a perfect fit and comfort. The area that the hair system is designed for usually already has thin density due to hair loss and therefore shaving in that area will not pose a significant difference especially considering that no one will see that area without hair since you will have it replaced.

Question: I want to have hair transplants. Will wearing a system hurt my transplants?

Answer: Many clients use a hair system while their transplanting is being performed. If the density of the transplants in the front is thick enough, a system can be placed behind them. In addition, semi-permanent attachments can be designed to be as unobtrusive as possible to the newly growing hair follicles beneath the system.

Question: How often am I going to need to have my hair replacement color refreshed?

Answer: The frequency of hair color refreshing depends on how the hair system is taken care of and may need refreshing four to six times per year.

Question: What about hair breakage?

Answer: Some clients purchase a system and will only need an hour of hair addition per year. However, other clients are harder on their systems and may require hair addition every month. Learning the correct techniques and using the proper products on your system will reduce hair loss on your system.

Question: How many attachment methods are there?

Answer: There are basically two types of attachments. The first type is sometimes referred to as a semi-permanent attachment where the client can “do it themselves” after we demonstrate how to do it. This type of attachment can be secure for up to two weeks before it requires maintenance; although with most cases it may be necessary to maintain after one week. The second type of attachment is referred to as a permanent attachment and is by far the most popular method. This type of attachment has to be maintained professionally and may last up to six weeks although more commonly must be maintained once per month. This type of attachment is achieved using special medical grade skin adhesives. There are many different types of skin adhesives and one is normally selected based on a person’s scalp condition and lifestyle. Typically, it may take Pro-Hairlines two or more applications to be able to determine the best application for a particular client.

Question: What if I am out of town and need hair products? Are there special shampoos or conditioners you would recommend?

Answer: Pro-Hairline’s products are formulated especially for Hair Replacement Systems. It is important that all products used to maintain your H.R. are for color treated hair, brands of which are normally found in better quality hair salons. If not, we can always send you any of the products we carry by mail or courier.

Question: Do you have much experience with female clients?

Answer: We have a large clientele of women. We make full sized systems for clients losing their hair or just want more volume to achieve a specific look or style.

Question: I live far away from your centre. Can I go anywhere to have my monthly hair trims or maintenance?

Answer: Should it not be possible for you to come to us on a monthly basis for service, it is imperative to visit a centre that is experienced and professional in hair replacement services with a good reputation for excellence. We must stress however, if you purchased a system from us, our warrantee becomes void should anyone else have tampered with the system. However, we are set-up to do maintenance service via Canada post or courier should it not be convenient for you to visit us as often as you would like.

Question: Which types of systems are more natural?

Answer: We offer every type of base material used in hair replacement systems on the market and various combinations thereof. In achieving the most natural appearance, the base materials used are unfortunately some of the most fragile. In exchange for achieving an invisible transition between your own scalp and the hair replacement, micro-thin bases are used. To date, CTR is still by far the most natural and most versatile H.R. process on the market.

Question: How long after you design my system will I need to wait before I can have my system?

Answer: Normal process with the factory takes a minimum of six to eight weeks. However, with certain extenuating circumstances, exceptions can be made to speed up the process somewhat with an additional charge.

Question: How long does each system last?

Answer: When it comes to life expectancy of a hair replacement system, it has to do with the quality of appearance one wants to maintain. You can make a hair replacement last two years or you can be happy with the appearance for only four months. Basically, it has to do with the quality of appearance one wants to keep. The method of care one furnishes to the system is also vital in determining its longevity. Unfortunately, we cannot stop wear and tear, and the more active the lifestyle, normally the shorter the life span of the hair replacement system. The average client should expect to purchase two units per year in order to be able to maintain the best possible appearance.

Question: Do you use human or synthetic hair?

Answer: Synthetic hair is normally used for grey or white hairs unless specifically requested by the client. Otherwise, 100% human hair is sourced and the ethnicity of the hair depends on the client’s ethnical origin.

Question: If I live far from you location, is it necessary for me to travel to your salon in order to have a system designed?

Answer: It is normally necessary for you to make two trips to our centre. One for the design and one for the “cut-in”.

Question: Do I really need two or more hair systems?

Answer: It is always best to have two or more systems. This ensures that you will always have one to wear while the other might need to have hair addition, color treatment, or other maintenance service. It also makes your maintenance visits more convenient in that you do not have to wait while your system is serviced; rather there is always one waiting ready for you.

Question: How is it possible for me to do my own attachments?

Answer: We show you how to do your own attachments. When it’s time to do your own attachment, you simply remove your system, clean your scalp and attach the other. How you clean and remove your system depends on the attachment method we train you to do for yourself.

Question: It is important to me that no one will feel my system during intimate moments. Is this possible?

Answer: You can easily get that effect with CTR. They are extremely thin H.R. systems that are almost impossible to feel. Their life span is half that of more durable systems. Each CTR system will last between four and six months.

Question: What if the system is not perfect when I come to you to have it cut-in and styled?

Answer: Pro-Hairline’s people are able to fine-tune a system as is necessary to achieve a perfect, undetectable look. That’s what ultra custom hair replacement is all about.

Question: I see bad hairpieces on the street. Are yours any better?

Answer: Pro-Hairline’s hair replacements are nothing like the mass produced rugs that other companies offer. This is why we are considered to be the best in the world.

Question: What type of attachment methods do you use?

Answer: We have CTR, ETT, and several other perimeter attaching liquids, gels, creams and all-over the scalp adhesives. We can also perform every other attachment method available and attachments that you do yourself.

Question: How long does my system stay on my head?

Answer: This entirely depends on the client. With do-it-yourself attachments, you can remove the attachment daily or leave it on for up to two weeks. Professionally done attachments however, can last from two to six weeks before they require re-attachment and maintenance.

Question: Why does hair color fade?

Answer: Color fading results from normal oxidation, like everything else, it’s the same thing with hair that occurs during routine wetting and washing of the hair. Periodically, your hair color will need to be refreshed since the hair isn’t growing and replacing itself.

Question: Will your systems look like my own hair?

Answer: the most important thing to remember is that Pro-Hairlines makes hair systems that look like your own hair and it looks like it is growing right out of your skin.

Question: I live not so much the active lifestyle but I do own a convertible. Would that be a problem with one of your hair systems?

Answer: Not at all! Let your hair blow in the wind. Live in it!

Question: Do you have clients who will let me see them wearing their hair system?

Answer: Yes. We have clients who you can look at and also we have samples of the materials we use.
